Schuppenboer Tripel

SchuppenBoer Tripel (Jack of Spades, but then in the Turnhout dialect, as is the case with all the brewery’s beers) is the very first regional beer from Turnhout. It is a very special beer because it tastes like a Tripel beer combined with a white beer. The taste is fruity, fresh and the beer has a cloudy appearance, with a blond orange colour. Its scent is sweet but still has a slightly bitter taste and feels slightly acidic on the tongue. Coriander and other spices provide the spicy taste.

The Tripel has an alcohol percentage of 8.5%, which makes it taste like a strong beer without the domination of alcohol.

HertenHeer

The name of the second local beer from the Het Nest Brewery literally means King of Hearts and is less heavy, but much more bitter than the SchuppenBoer Tripel. The alcohol content of 6.5% and the high degree of bitterness makes the beer ideal for the summer. It is also very suitable as an aperitif.

The beer’s bitterness is owed to the quantity of added hops. For the Hertenheer, only European hop varieties were used. They provide a spicy but also slightly fruity hop aroma.

KlevereTien

The third regional beer from the Het Nest Brewery is called the Ten of Clubs and is a dark winter beer that is difficult to classify. The ten in the name refers both to the alcohol content of the beer and to the tenth anniversary of the ‘Orde van de zatte mus’ or in English 'Order of the drunken sparrow’ beer tasting club.

Although the KlevereTien beer is almost black in colour, it is not a stout. In terms of flavour, it falls within the category of 'complex' tasting beers. It has a predominantly spicy taste with a touch of liquorice (star anise), caramel, chocolate, coffee, raisins and prunes. As you sup, the alcoholic heat of the beer comes more to light. With each sip you discover new flavours.

SchuppenAas

The fourth beer in the playing cards street of the Het Nest Brewery is the SchuppenAas, Ace of spades. This amber beer is inspired by the Trappist beer from Orval. Just like the Orval, this beer is fermented with two different yeast varieties. Yet, it is not the intention to copy the 'Orval' brewing method, because except for the colour and the yeast, there are few similarities. The hobbiest brewers have deliberately used varieties of American hops that give the beer a strong citrus and grapefruit character.

KoekeDam

The recipe for KoekeDam, Queen of Diamonds, was first developed in 2011. The reason for the creation of this beer was to celebrate the Turnhout 2012 event. The original recipe contained Amarillo-hop. But because it was very scarce in 2012, this was substituted with Cascade hops. This gives the beer a citrus aroma. The adapted recipe was used for the Turnhout Patriot beer. In 2014 Het Nest decided, because they were still missing a lady for their poker straight and did not yet have a diamond symbol in the range, the choice for a new name was right in front of them: KoekeDam, Queen of Diamonds
